Building a Community of Childcare Champions

Second Family Consulting began as Second Family Childcare in 2020, born from the real-life challenges and triumphs experienced by our founder, Debra Locke. Starting her journey in childcare at 16, Debra witnessed firsthand the obstacles faced by low-income families and aspiring providers. Determined to make a difference, she built a program that goes far beyond classroom training—it creates an extended family of support, mentoring, and opportunity.

Our Mission & Vision

Mission: To guide childcare providers on their journey—offering hands-on support, tailored training, and a robust network of resources to launch and grow high-quality childcare operations.

Vision: To create an equitable pathway for every aspiring childcare provider, ensuring that quality care and opportunity are accessible to all.

Core Values

  • Equality

We believe every aspiring childcare provider, regardless of background or income, deserves an equal chance to succeed. By removing barriers and offering tailored support, we create a level playing field where everyone can realize their full potential.

  • Community
Guided by the principle, “Want for your brother what you want for yourself,” we foster a genuine family network where collaboration and shared resources thrive. Together, we uplift each other, build stronger neighborhoods, and ensure no provider feels alone in their journey.
  • Persistence
Obstacles are inevitable, but giving up isn’t an option. We stand by our providers with unwavering support, helping them overcome every hurdle so they can continue to grow and serve their communities.

CEO Statement

This program was created to allow access into the early childhood field of work. We pride ourselves on inspiring low income families to become childcare entrepreneurs and community stewards. This program requires patience and persistence to finish the course but once you do, it will be life changing.

At 16 I watched my nieces and nephews helping my mom as a FFN provider and I never thought I would be back in childcare. From that experience we have created this program to offer a pathway into a career with little to no college debt. This program is a great introduction to working with kids and offers the ability to get paid to do what you already do. I’m glad you decided to join us on our journey!
